Alia Bhatt auditioned for Karan Johar’s Student of the Year alongside 500 other girls!

Karan Johar’s Student of the Year will give the big-screen a host of promising new faces who are anticipated to be the next big stars in Bollywood. With Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead, the film has been in the spotlight ever since it was first announced by director-producer Karan Johar. While Siddharth and Varun were quickly picked up by Karan Joharto star in the film, given the fact that they have on previous account worked with the filmmaker as assistant directors for the film My Name Is Khan, Alia Bhatt was required to audition for the role. Quoting Alia, “”I had decided that I would not start off with my father’s production only because it’s an easier option. For this film, I had to work for it, like lose weight, prove myself, etc. There were around 500 girls who had given the auditions along with me.”

At a tender age of 19, Alia Bhatt has landed a dream debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year alongside Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan. This film will be her first shot at acting and given the fact that she hails from a strong Bollywood background, the young actor’s performance is highly anticipated. “I have no experience about films and acting. I have not done any training. So my whole stint has been a learning experience. I didn’t even know the ‘A’ of acting,” says Alia. The actor is the daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan. She is also the half sister of actor Pooja Bhatt. Speaking about her sister, Alia articulated, “There are actresses who started working at a very young age. Like my sister (Pooja Bhatt) started working when she was 17. So age doesn’t matter.”

In the upcoming film, Alia Bhatt dons the roll of Shanaya Singhania, a student at an esteemed institution in Dehradun called St. Teresa’s High School. After meeting Abhimanyu aka Abhi (Siddharth Malhotra), Shanaya unknowingly begins harboring feelings for him, despite being in a relationship with her boyfriend Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan). As the film progresses, the trio faces friendship, love, companionship, rivalry and enmity as they compete in the Student of the Year competition to win the trophy.

Karan Johar’s Student of the Year will release on the 19th of October, 2012.
